Corner Store Jazz is a contemporary creative music label dedicated to presenting its artists with the utmost purity and authenticity, in beautifully recorded and packaged audiophile CDs, LPs, and downloadable formats.
The Corner Store, originally a retasked and refurbished cozy commercial space in Brooklyn, NY, swiftly evolved into home for sessions to not only Phil Haynes and Jim Yanda, but a favored meeting place and artistic clearinghouse for a generation of emerging international artists (1983 – 2003) — including Paul Smoker, Ellery Eskelin, Drew Gress, Andy Laster, Herb Robertson, Dave Douglas, Mark Feldman, Ben Monder, Mark Dresser, Lindsey Horner, Frank Lacy, David Taylor, Michael Jefry Stevens, David Kikoski, Joe Daley, and countless others — lending its moniker to an annual multi-day festival at the ‘Old’ Knitting Factory as well as its collective big band (additionally including Don Byron, Marty Ehrlich, Tim Berne, and Steve Swell).
Our services have roots in the transition after the advent of CDs, when our industry was in contraction and former prized boutique jazz labels were declaring bankruptcy at an alarming rate – and taking the rights to their artist’s master tapes with them.
Creating a publication option that would not relegate pivotal releases by our Corner Store Community to the ‘cutout’ and ‘out of print’ dustbins of commercial labels became a priority, maintaining original artist’s control over publications.
